AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF SMITH COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE JUSTICE COURT OF SUCH COUNTY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE PAID TO SMITH COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Smith County, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case, for each misdemeanor case processed through the justice courts of Smith County.

(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the county to Smith County Crimestoppers for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Smith County, Mississippi.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
